 New to Christ Church?
Welcome to Christ Church Cathedral

Most of us are searching for something larger than ourselves—for connections that are real and meaningful. We invite you to explore further. Christ Church offers many ways to go a bit deeper and discover a warm caring community and a place of belonging while you get to know us and what we stand for. You will be warmly welcomed and shown full respect for where you are in your faith journey, whether that means you want to take it slowly and tentatively, or jump right in.

Newcomer_Audrey.jpgHere are some ways to connect:

1. Attend one of our Sunday Services (at 7:30am, 8:30am, 11:00am and 5:00pm). There you will meet the clergy and other members, newcomers, and seekers.

2. Fill out a Welcome card (found throughout the church)

4. Come to a Breakfast. This is a great time to meet some members and get a great hot breakfast.Breakfast is offered during the school calendar at 9:30am in the Great Hall.

5. Join the Inquirer's Class. Members of this class began in September and may be confirmed at the Easter Vigil. It is designed for individuals desiring to learn more about the Episcopal Church and their spiritual journey. We believe baptism formally marks a person as Christ and his / her church. As in the early church, the process for becoming a member was deliberate and long, so that those committing themselves to a new life with Christ could understand the significance of their action. Contact Audrey if you want more information.

I am interested in Membership at Christ Church Cathedral. How do I join?

Persons desiring to become members of Christ Church Cathedral, whether new to the Christian faith, members of another Christian denomination, or transferring from another Episcopal Church may want to explore membership by attending the Catechumenate class.  Officially joining the parish is usually accomplished in one of these ways:

1.  a letter of transfer
2.  confirmation or reception
3.  Sacrament of Baptism

A letter of transfer is for those who are baptized or confirmed members of another Episcopal parish.  The paperwork for a letter of transfer is taken care of by the Cathedral Dean’s office, but the person requesting the transfer must initiate the process by requesting the Dean’s office to take care of this for them.  If someone comes to Christ Church Cathedral from another Episcopal parish and does not transfer membership, that person is counted in national church statistics as an inactive member.  A letter of transfer may be requested at any time and attending the Catechumenate class is encouraged.

Confirmation is for those who are baptized members of another denomination, or for those who have been baptized but not confirmed in the Episcopal Church.

Reception is for those who have been confirmed in another denomination with apostolic succession of bishops, such as the Roman Catholic Church.  Both confirmation and reception require the presence of the bishop and are performed during his annual visitation.  Attending the Catechumenate class leads to confirmation or reception for those who desire to make this commitment.

Joining by the Sacrament of Baptism is for those who never have been baptized into the Christian faith with water in the name of the Trinity.  Baptisms are performed several times throughout the year as part of a Sunday morning worship service.  The public confession of faith takes the form of baptismal vows found in The Book of Common Prayer.

To begin the membership process, please contact the Dean's office, 859-254-4497.
