Derrick Ramsey will speak at Christ Church Cathedral Friday night, October 2. 

 

Since retiring from football, Ramsey has been Athletic Director at two universities, served as Kentucky Secretary of Education and Workforce Development, was a Senior Fellow at the Urban Institute, a UK Board of Trustees member, and held severalmore public service offices. In addition to his public service, Ramsey has been a successful businessman, author, and mentor. His book, They Call Me Mr. Secretary: Through the Lens of a Winner, reflects on his powerful journey, sharing insights on leadership, perseverance, and personal growth.  

 

Retired Director of Communications and Leadership Development for the Diocese of Lexington, McLaughlin holds a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology. She was the long-time Editor of the Diocesan newspaper, The Advocate, and established Solo Flight, which became a nation-wide program for singles in the Episcopal Church. She has written a number of books, including Talking Together: Getting Beyond Polarization Through Civil Dialogue; The Thin Place by the Bay; and Football’s Gentle Giant: The Blanton Collier Story.  

 

The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame mission is “Honoring Kentucky’s Pro Football legends to support Kentucky’s children and young people.”  The organization has contributed over a million dollars to Kentucky Children’s charities.  The organization also sponsors the Blanton Collier Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes individuals who have not only excelled in football but also used their athletic platform to give back to their communities.  Recipients include Tony Dungy, Nick Saban and Howard Schnellenberger.  The award is named for NFL Champion and SEC Coach of the Year Blanton Collier, who coached the Cleveland Browns and the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
