Christmas Eve Services

Tuesday, December 24 at 5pm & 11pm

A beautiful candlelight service with Holy Communion and carol singing led by the incredible Cathedral Choir. Bring friends, family, or just yourself and enjoy celebrating this meaningful tradition with familiar and well-loved carols. Come early to enjoy more great music! Preludes will begin 30 minutes before each service.  Childcare will be available at the 5pm service only. As you walk through the entrance under the bell tower at Christ Church Cathedral on Christmas Eve, the soft lights of the candles at the edge of the box pews beckon one and all to come in, join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus: The Feast of the Nativity! There is an anticipation of something special and unique that can bring hope and joy to a world ready for the love of God. From the sounds of the pipe organ to the jubilant strains of "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" the service begins. Joining with friends or strangers, you are surrounded by the readings, Carols and the Holy Eucharist for the commemoration of the the birth of Jesus. Sharing the feast of communion, then in the light of hundreds of single candles, singing the familiar words of "Silent Night" you are wrapped in the warmth of the Cathedral family. Then, each of us, in our own way, goes into the night to greet the first moments of Christmas Day. Come join us, and we can share this beauty and joy together!

Blue Christmas

Sunday, December 8 at 4pm

Often, the Holiday season can be something less than "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year". Pressures from family and friends, while unintentional, can add to feelings of loss or loneliness. Sometimes, a quiet, reflective time of prayer and thinking of the beauty of the story of the Nativity of Jesus, hearing music that may be different than the "old familiar carols" that may actually not fill that space in your heart is what you're looking for. Blue Christmas gives space and permission to recognize and embrace how you want and need to spend time acknowledging the birth of Christ, yet do so without expectations or judgment.  Know that you are welcomed and loved as you choose a softer way to add your voice to the chorus of "Glory to God, and Peace on Earth".

Nine Lessons and Carols

Sunday, December 15 at 7pm, prelude at 6:30pm

This exquisite service is simple in its beauty. It is not a pageant. It is not a performance. It is an offering to the community looking for light and joy. A candlelit setting in an historic church, full of beautiful music. The "lessons" are scripture readings telling the story a birth so long ago. The "carols" are a mixture of pieces sung by our choirs with a special focus on the purity of children's voices. Mix in familiar songs from the Christmas season sung with great joy by the congregation. That is the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Come experience the service of pure beauty and light. Your holiday traditions will add a new favorite! Come early to enjoy the prelude beginning at 6:30pm. No tickets required. Nursery for age 4 and under is available.

A Ceremony of Carols

Tuesday, December 17 at 12pm

Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony of Carols" is a beloved composition of holiday music that has filled the hearts of those who hear it with joy. The vocal harmonies and rhythms are like crystal ice cycles ringing in a cool breeze beside a snowy scene in a wooded landscape. You can experience this classic on a lovely afternoon break from the hustle and bustle of the fast-approaching Christmas celebrations. The sounds of our Cathedral Girls Choir accompanied by harp are a lovely way to see and hear a beautiful offering for Christmas. This Christmas favorite concludes with a congregational carol. This is a free concert. Parking for this service is available in the spots marked for Christ Church Cathedral as well as the parking lot by the Sire hotel.
