STEPHEN MINISTRY

BECOMING A STEPHEN MINISTER
Now Recruiting! Training begins mid-September
Do you feel drawn to come alongside those who are experiencing grief, sorrow, or hardship? Looking for a place to serve? We are currently recruiting a new class of Stephen Ministers — a group trained to offer ongoing spiritual and emotional support to those in our Cathedral congregation experiencing difficult times in their lives. Training for this new class of Stephen Ministers begins in mid-September. Interested in learning more about becoming a Stephen Minister? Please contact Rev. Kenny at kpierce@ccclex.org or 859-254-4497.
Stephen Ministry is a complete system for equipping lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.
There are three main groups of people involved in Stephen Ministry:
STEPHEN MINISTERS
Stephen Ministers are Cathedral members trained to offer care to individuals who are hurting. A Stephen Minister typically has one care receiver at a time and meets with that person once a week for about an hour. Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of training and commit to monthly peer supervision meetings. Interested in learning more about becoming a Stephen Minister? Contact Rev. Kenny at kpierce@ccclex.org or 859-254-4497.
CARE RECEIVERS
Care receivers are individuals at the Cathedral who are going through a crisis or life difficulty and have requested the ministry of a Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports and encourages. Potential care receivers first meet with a priest or Stephen Leader, who assesses their needs for care and matches them with a Stephen Minister. To discuss referral to a Stephen Minister, contact Rev. Kenny at kpierce@ccclex.org or 859-254-4497.
STEPHEN LEADERS
Stephen Leaders are church staff, lay leaders, and pastors trained to provide ongoing leadership for their congregation’s Stephen Ministry. They are equipped for this key role through the Stephen Leader Training Course offered by Stephen Ministries. Our Cathedral Stephen Leaders are Rev. Kenny and Elizabeth Woodward.
*Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry.
The identity of those receiving care and what takes place in each caring relationship remains private.
